    When voters go to the polls Nov. 8, they will see Referendum No. 426, a referendum placed on the ballot by petition of the people, which will either retain or repeal the death penalty. A vote to retain will eliminate the death penalty and changes the maximum penalty for the crime of murder in the first degree by repealing Legislative Bill 268, passed in 2015 by the 104th Nebraska Legislature.   • Toys for Tots kicks off drive seeking donations

    With a little more than 60 days until Christmas, Cheyenne County Toys for Tots will be distributing its donation boxes and fliers throughout Cheyenne County this week. Matt Gudahl, County Coordinator, said there will be 10-15 locations with donation boxes throughout the county. Gudahl said toy donations are needed to help local families in need celebrate Christmas.     Sidney High School's cross country team has held to the mantra of improving each time they run. They entered the state meet with only continued improvement in mind Saturday, and to let the chips fall where they may. The chips feel very well for the Raiders, with both teams finishing in the top 10. Not a bad run for teams who went from being the largest Class C school to the smallest in Class B.
