    The second murder trial held in Cheyenne County over the same number of months opened on Monday as the district court began hearing evidence. Jason Custer, 35 of Sidney, is charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Custer stands trial for the shooting death of Adam McCormick, which occurred just after midnight outside a home on San Marino Road in Sidney on Nov. 3, 2012.   • Voters to again decide on $16.95 million school bond

    Sidney's school board will again bring plans for a new elementary school before voters, hoping for approval of a $16.95 million bond. The measure was previously defeated in a September 2013 special election by just 105 votes. The bond will appear on local ballots as part of the May 13 primaries, with the proposed school to be constructed along Fort Sidney Rd. "While it did get voted down, it's obvious almost half of the voters are for it," Sidney Public Schools superintendent Jay Ehler said....

    The Red Raiders continued their solid run of district play by upending the Scottsbluff Bearcats 44-41 on Saturday to up their record to 5-1 in Class B District 6 competition.   • Potter woman identified in attempted bank robbery

    The suspect who allegedly attempted to rob a Sidney bank on Friday morning was reported to be a 30-year-old Potter woman. Law enforcement authorities are releasing little detailed information on the incident, but Janetta Lenstrom was reportedly identified as the person taken into protective custody on Friday for the attempted armed robbery of Sidney Federal Savings & Loan, across from the courthouse in downtown Sidney.     A talented group of class C2 basketball players from Bridgeport invaded Cabela's Athletic Facility on Friday night to try their hand against one of the panhandle's most dangerous Class B opponents. Although the Bulldogs (11-3) fought Sidney to a near draw after one half of play, Sidney wore down their guests the rest of the way, to claim a 44-34 victory.
