    Sidney was recently named as the eighth-safest city in Nebraska. Based on FBI crime data from 2012, violent crimes in the city averaged 1.32 incidents per 1,000 residents and property crimes 14.73 per 1,000. The list was compiled by SafeWise, a Utah-based security organization established more than 75 years ago.   • STATE WRESTLING: Sidney's Derek Robb wins twice, moves into semifinals

    Undefeated Sidney High School freshman Derek Robb won both of his matches at 138 pounds on Thursday at the Nebraska State Wrestling Championships in Omaha. He pinned Levi Heilig of Boys Town in 49 seconds in the opening round and pinned Ashland-Greenwood's Cody Lambert in 3:29 in the quarterfinals. The two wins improved his record to 43-0 this season. At 106 pounds, freshman Kaden Vowers pinned Jason Kubicka of Adams Central in 3:07 in the first round, but lost an 18-4 major decision to Van Schmidt of Omaha Skutt Catholic in the quarterfinals.... Full story

    Children from Wild About Preschool in Sidney took a field trip Wednesday to The Sidney Sun-Telegraph offices. The kids – ranging in age from 3 to 5 years old – talked with Publisher Rob Langrell about how a newspaper is produced from start to finish each day. The group also saw the printing presses run during their visit and received pirate hats made from a newspaper.... Full story
