  • Family Dollar assistant manager, girlfriend face theft charges

    An assistant manager at a local store along with his girlfriend were arrested after an alleged theft at the business. According to Sidney Police Chief B.J. Wilkinson, officers were called to the Family Dollar Store on 10th Avenue on Dec. 8 for a report of a theft from a safe. Employees who had arrived for work that morning told officers that the front door of the business was unlocked, as were the safe and a cigarette case.   • Colorado woman dies in rollover crash near Sunol

    A 20-year-old Colorado woman died in a rollover crash on I-80 in Cheyenne County on Saturday morning. Emily Barnes of Craig, Colo., was a passenger in a car that rolled over about two miles east of Sunol. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to a state police report. The car was driven by 22-year-old Cody Seldon of Michigan. He was wearing a seat belt and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.... Full story

    The Cheyenne County Ladies Chamber of Commerce presented a check for $1,053.79 last week to the Leyton Parent Assistant Council to help pay for the resurfacing of the school's playground.     The group "Compassionate Friends" group held a candle-lighting ceremony Sunday night at Evangelical Free Church to honor children who have died.     I recently attended a workshop on the new farm bill. The workshop was hosted by UNL Extension and our local FSA office. I truly appreciate the effort by these organizations to attempt to educate local producers on the decisions producers will need to make concerning the new farm bill.     The Sidney High School wrestling team took third place among 14 teams at the Gordon-Rushville Invite on Saturday. Colton Peckham, Derek Robb and Ryan Nieto all brought home championships in their respective weight classes for the Red Raiders.
