Potter-Dix splits at Bayard

BAYARD — Potter-Dix High School’s basketball teams earned a split Friday night at Bayard.

Jeff Einspahr’s Coyotes girls improved to 5-2 with a 44-39 victory, while Chad Miller’s boys fell short at the wire in a 44-43 loss.

Conner Wolff scored 16 points for P-D, which led 12-9 after a quarter, 21-18 at halftime and by a scant 30-29 margin at the third stop.

“The game was close but the big item was we hit our free throws tonight,” Einspahr said. “We made 17 of 29 as a team, and out starters were 13 of 15. We managed to get a few turnovers at the end that helped.”

Wolff was the only P-D player in double figures, with Amanda Maas putting in seven, Morgan Wolff and Taylor Juelfs six each.

Megan Stuart led the Lady Tigers with 12 points.

P-D boys lose heartbreaker

Miller’s Coyotes were in a five-point hole in the closing moments, and were able to cut the lead to 44-43, but missed numerous chances to get the lead late.

“We still had a chance with the ball at 4.5 seconds,” Miller said. “We got the ball down the floor, but the shot was deflected and we came up short.”

The contest was tied at 32-all heading into the fourth period before Bayard was able to gain a slight edge.

Braydon Parriott led all scorers with 22 points, while Bryant Knigge scored 14 points and Luke Johnson 13 for P-D (1-6).

Both Coyotes squads host South Platte this evening.
