Carl Edward Summers Jr., 81, of Crook, Colo., passed away March 8, 2013, in Crook.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at United Church of Crook with Pastor Dale Pierce officiating. Services will conclude at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Carl was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Crook to Carl E. Summers Sr. and Edith M. (Binfield) Summers. He graduated from high school.

He was a farmer and rancher through the years.

On Sept. 28, 1952, he married Beverly Brown in Sterling.

Carl was a member of Colorado Auctioneers Association, FFA Young Farmers and was the first FFA president at Crook, American Shorthorn Association, hay superintendent at the Logan County Fair and the original member of the Great Western Beef Expo.

He is survived by his sons, David Summers and wife Glenda of Craig and their children, Bradley and wife Rachel, Ashley and Cory and great-granddaughter Peyton; Doug Summers of Crook and children Colby, Lane, Teague, Caytlynn and Kash; Randell Summer and wife Stephanie of Crook and their son Kent.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly in April 2010; sister, Tudy Schaehterle; and an infant brother in 1935.

Memorials may be made to United Church of Crook – Women’s Lunch Bunch.

Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling handled the arrangements.
