Stafford benefit dinner a success; donations still being accepted

Dozens of people attended the benefit dinner for Derek Stafford on March 26 in the Sidney High School cafeteria. Derek was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 6 months. In addition to cystic fibrosis, Derek also has a blood clotting disorder.

The fundraiser was held to benefit Derek’s family’s expenses that are incurred during their frequent trips to Denver for Derek’s treatments and medicines. When Derek is admitted to the hospital in Denver, it is always a two-week minimum stay, so the money from the benefit will help cover the cost of gasoline, medical expenses and lodging.

In addition to sloppy joes, there were baked beans, chips, a vegetable medley and a variety of baked goods for desert.

Dozens of nice items for the silent auction were donated by individuals and businesses, including: Buffalo Point; Cabela’s; Book and Coffee Corner; Hillside Bar and Grill; D’Boutique; David’s Plumbing; Shirt Tales; 21st Century Equipment; Sam and Louie’s; Steffens Home Interiors; Larry’s Clothing; Miller Wheat Farms; Sauder’s Automotive; Rood’s Tire Center and Accents Home Décor.

Derek says that donations may be made to the Boomer Esiason Foundation for cystic fibrosis. Casey Cortney said that donations that will go to Derek and his family may be made at the Sidney Rehabilitation and Wellness Clinic.

Derek’s mother, Laura, expressed thanks to everyone who attended the dinner and greatly appreciates all of the individuals and businesses who donated items for the auction.
