Betty Kurth, 92 of Gurley, Nebraska died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney, Nebraska.

We will celebrate her life at a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 24, 2014 in the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent in her name to the Weyerts Legion Auxiliary, %Phyllis Ladine, P.O. Box146 Gurley, NE 69141.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.

Betty was born in Thedford, Neb. on Nov. 15, 1921 to Philip and Mabel (Pollard) Lacquement. She moved during her childhood to various parts of the surrounding states, and graduated from High School at Callaway, Neb. Soon married to Melvin Kurth, she spent time as everyone working for the WWII war efforts, rolling bombs and beginning her career as a beautician.

Betty was a resident of Cheyenne County and Gurley for nearly 69 years. She moved with her family to Gurley on Oct. 1st, 1945 directly after her husband got out of the service in World War II.

Betty started her Beauty Shop in Gurley in July 1947, and operated it at her home until she retired in 1986.

Betty was active in the Weyerts Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by two sons, Dean (Cheryl) of North Platte and Roy in Gurley and a daughter Mary Ann (Don) of Kent, Wash. She also had four grand children, eight great grand children and three great, great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin in 1996 and a daughter Lila who passed away in 1956.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Sidney is serving the Kurth family.
