Sandra J. Kope, 49 of Gurley, passed away at her home, Wednesday, March 26, 2014.

Local funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday morning, April 1st in the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel. Additional services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4th in the Dixson-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home at Elizabethtown, Ky. Burial will follow in the Bryan Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday from 1 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sandra's name to the Gurley Rescue Unit.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service LLC is in charge of Sandra's care and funeral arrangements.

Sandra Jean Kope, the daughter of William Mobley and Virginia M. (Meyers) McMillen, was born on Aug.17, 1964 at Elizabethtown, Ky. The family lived at Colesburg, Ky. and Sandi attended the Vine Grove Elementary School and North Hardin High School in Radcliff, Ky. Sandi participated in softball and volleyball and enjoyed attending church.

On July 28, 1986, Sandi was united in marriage to Donald D. Kope in Kentucky. Following their move to Nebraska, Sandra worked as a waitress in Bridgeport and a bank teller in Sidney. In 2001, Sandra won a Poetry Award and made a trip to Florida to receive the award handed to her by Florence Henderson. In later years she received several honors for her poetry but was unable to attend the ceremonies due to declining health.

Sandra also loved camping, baking and taking care of her family.

Survivors include her husband: Donald D. Kope of Gurley; (2) sons: Donald W. Kope and wife Haley of Clute, TX and Brandon W. Kope and wife Amber of Pittsboro, N.C.; her mother: Virginia Bryan of Gurley; (3) brothers: Wade McMillen of Gurley, William McMillen Jr. of Colesburg, Ky. and Doyle McMillen of Elizabethtown; (2) grandchildren: Donovan Kope and Aiden Kope along with many extended family members and friends.

Sandra was preceded in death by her father: William McMillen and (1) brother: Marty Lewis McMillen.
