1925 to 2014

Margaret P. Mason, 88 of Fullerton, Neb. and formerly of Sidney, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wed., April 9th at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Graveside inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 11th in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday to sign Margaret’s register book and drop off condolences for the family. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is assisting the family with local arrangements

Mrs. Mason was born July 22, 1925 at Genoa to Frank and Mildred (Meyer) Purvis. She grew up between Fullerton and Genoa. She attended District 2 and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1942. She received her Teaching Certificate from Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney. She taught country school for six years at District 49, 10 and 54 all in Nance County. On June 1, 1947 she married Robert Mason at Genoa. Her husband was a project Engineer for the State of Nebraska Dept. of Roads so they lived in many communities throughout north central Nebraska. They settled in Ainsworth. In 1967 they moved to Sidney. She worked at the Sidney Memorial Hospital for several years. Her husband passed away in 1979. In 2013 she moved to Valley View in Fullerton and resided there till her death.

She was a member of the Fullerton United Methodist Church, past member of Jobs Daughters and V.F.W. Auxiliary. While living in Sidney she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, taught Sunday school and delivered meals on wheels.

Her hobbies included painting, playing cards especially Bridge, crossword puzzles, reading and needlework.

Survivors include two sons, Ron of Genoa and Robert “Bob” (MarieFrance Weier) Mason of Beach Park, Ill. One daughter Lisa (Michael) Elwood of Kansas City, Mo. Two sisters Bonnie Zarek of Fullerton and Ruth Carlson of Genoa. Four grandchildren, Sarah (Joey) Gorman of Sidney, Brigitte Mason, Morgan Mason and RobertLee Mason. Two great grandchildren Zoey and Zane Gorman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and daughter Peggy J. Kemp.
