Godfrey conquers wind, competition at Perkins County

With Lane Godfrey topping the leaderboard, The Creek Valley golf team finished fourth among 12 teams competing Tuesday in the Perkins County Invite at West Wind Golf Course.

Godfrey had even nines of 39 for his 78 total, despite the strong winds which caused much of the field to struggle. He saved his best for last, as he went one-under par for the final two holes--including a birdie 2 on 17.

Godfrey was the easy winner of the first-place medal. The runnerup carded an 88.

“He played really well especially when you consider how hard the wind was blowing,” said Storm Head Coach Cyd Hanson. “Overall we had too many scores in the 100s, but even that’s getting better.”

The Storm’s total of 397 put them behind Hitchcock County (363), host Perkins County (375) and Chase County (388).

The Storm’s other individual scores included Brett Godfrey with a 104, Wyatt McMillen at 107, Alex Dexter at 108 and Joe Van Winkle close behind at 110.

Creek Valley is back on the links on Friday when they travel to Garden County for a 9 a.m. start.
