Dance students to show their moves this weekend

A plethora of dance skills will be displayed at Dance Steps' yearly recital this weekend.

Dance Steps, currently in its 24th year of operation serves around 90 dance and gymnastics students.

Dance Steps teaches students from three years old through high school age. The studio offers instruction in classical ballet, tap, hip hop and gymnastics. The school moved into a new studio in the Jones' center in May of last year.

"We're very structured at Dance Steps," said owner and classical ballet and tap teacher Margaret Meier. "It's very, very structured. But it teaches them, not only how to learn how to dance, but it teaches them poise and grace and to work as like one unit."

The recital is Sunday May 4 at 2 p.m. in Sidney High School Performing Arts Center. Meier expects the recital to last a little longer than an hour. Tickets are $5. Meier encourages all members of the community to come out and enjoy the show.

"The kids are so talented," Meier said. "They're just amazing to watch. They perform so well."

Even the smallest of the children don't need coaching during their performances, she added.

"I'm very proud of my dance kids," Meier said.

Ali Miller, a former student of Meier's who began at the school when she was three years old will soon be joining the studio, to teach a dance team class. Miller recently graduated from Doane college, where she was on the dance team.
