Message boards to be replaced along I-80; detours planned

Weather permitting, Mid-Plains Power of Grand Island and the Nebraska Department of Roads, will replace the dynamic message boards along I-80 in Cheyenne, Deuel and Kimball Counties beginning Monday, Sep. 22.

The $102,443 project, which is expected to be completed by Oct. 17, will involve closing portions of I-80 for short periods of time to allow for the removal and reinstallation of the new message boards. Traffic will be temporarily detoured from I-80 to US-30 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the nights of these board switches.

The detours will be from Lodgepole Interchange, exit 76, to Chappell Interchange, exit 85, for the eastbound lanes; Lodgepole Interchange, exit 76, to Sidney East Interchange, exit 59, for the westbound lanes; rural Cheyenne County Interchange, exit 48, to Sidney West Interchange, exit 55 for the eastbound lanes; and Bushnell Interchange, exit 8, to Kimball East Interchange, exit 22, for the eastbound lanes.

The Department of Roads’ manager for this project is Jim Johnson of Gering.
