25 die on Nebraska roadways in September

Twenty-five people were killed in traffic accidents on the state’s roadways during September, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Roads. There were 23 fatalities on the roads in September 2013.

The 25 fatalities marks the most in any single month this year.

Last month, the 25 fatalities occurred in 24 crashes. In those accidents, 11 of the 19 vehicle occupants who died were no wearing safety belts. None of the fatalities occurred on interstate roads, with 10 happening on non-interstate highways and 15 on local roads. Sixteen of the fatalities occurred in rural locations.

Nine of the fatalities occurred in single vehicle run-off-road crashes, five involved motorcycles and one involved a bicyclist.

For 2014, there have been 171 fatalities involving 152 crashes. Through September 2013, there had been 167 fatalities in 152 crashes.
