Hilda Scheve

1919 to 2014

Hilda Scheve, 95 of Beatrice, died Saturday morning, Oct. 25, 2014 at the Beatrice Community Hospital. She was born on Feb. 11, 1919 at Brookfield, Ill. and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1936. She worked at the candy counter at Woolworth's and J.M.McDonald's in Beatrice. On Feb. 1, 1942 she married William J. Scheve at First Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice. They lived and farmed west of Beatrice all their married life. She was a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church, was a member of Ladies Aid and a charter member of LWML. She served on the Red Cross Board and the Republican County Board, receiving the Outstanding Political Award in 1993. She also took care of the food department at the Gage County Fair and was a Braille worker.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Ring and husband Larry of Alliance and Susan Miller and husband Arden of Lodgepole; three sons, Bill Scheve and wife Jean of York, Richard Scheve and wife Mary of Beatrice and Lloyd Scheve and wife Jeanne of Blair; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Blettner of Indianapolis, Ind. and Dorothy Keller and husband Jim of Zionsville, Ind .; sister-in-law, Addie Scheve of Norfolk; brother-in-law, Don Herther of Vallonia, Ind .; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. F.W. and Anna (Cohrs) Falkenroth, her husband, William, who died on August 19, 2000, daughter-in-law, Sallie Scheve, two sisters, Esther Barker and Leona Herther, an infant sister, Anna, and two brothers, Martin and Rev. Fred Falkenroth.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 29, 2014 at First Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice with Pastor Timothy W. Wagner officiating. Private burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to First Trinity Lutheran Church and the BCH Hospice Program with the church elders in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 5 p.m. on Monday until 9 p.m. Tuesday (not at the church on Wednesday.) The family will greet relatives and friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
