Public hearing set for proposed Love's Travel Stop

The Sidney City Council will hold a public hearing to iron out the final steps in the production and annexation of the new Love’s Travel Stop.

The Sidney Planning Commission approved an additional one and a half acres of land to the Love’s Truck Stop project for an employee lounge and hotel at its last meeting.

“This issue came from the planning commission for the second time,” said Mayor Wendall Gatson. “The reason it went back to the planning commission is there was a change and they have made it larger. For people’s information, it is going forward. I have people ask me if it’s happening. The answer is ‘yes’ it’s happening and it’s getting bigger. It’s a positive thing.”

Council will hold the public hearing on Dec. 9.

In other news from the meeting, the home occupation ordinance was rewritten to include more up to date occupations including, eBay, home sales and party planning.

The Sidney Crack Seal contact was also reviewed. Bids from Hein Construction Co., Baders Highway and Street maintenance and American Pavement Solutions were rejected and re-opened for bidding under new criteria.

The Council approved an ordinance that would require anybody building a house, building or property used for human occupancy, recreation or any other purpose in Sidney to install a suitable toilet system aligned with the city’s sewer system.
