Cleo Van Cleave

1920 to 2014

Cleo Elaine Van Cleave, 94, died on Nov. 28, 2014, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel, Neb.

Services will be held on Tues, Dec. 2, at 3:30 pm at the United Presbyterian Church in Laurel, Nebraska. Burial will be at the Laurel Cemetery following the service.

Pallbearers: Chad Van Cleave, Ryan Van Cleave, Chris Van Cleave, Ricardo Ochoa, Kevin Van Cleave, Kyle Van Cleave, Chris Hocum, and Tom Luxford.

Cleo was born Nov. 26, 1920, at Lodgepole, to Perry and Viola Bowser. She lived most of her early life in Wyoming and graduated from Laramie High School. She married Wayne (Pete) Van Cleave on June 25, 1943, in Kimball. Pete and Cleo lived in different towns in the western part of Wyoming moving around with Pete's job in the oil fields. They moved to Sidney in 1950, where they lived until July 2012, when they moved to Assisted Living in Laurel.

Cleo worked many jobs throughout her life - grocery store, railroad, motel, and drug store among others. She owned her own dress shop for a while then went to beauty school at age 62. She was a member of the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney.

Pete and Cleo enjoyed traveling with Pete's brother who married Cleo's sister. Cleo enjoyed craftwork and crocheted many afghans.

Cleo is survived by her husband, Pete, Laurel. Three sons: Doyle, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Lyle (Sharon) Laurel; Randy (Cathy), Parkville, Mo., 8 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild. 15 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren. Two brother-in-laws, Vance (Ted) Van Cleave and Allen Andrews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Otto and Millie Van Cleave; sisters Evelyn Grignon, Phyllis Letcher, Gladys (Birdie) Van Cleave, and Maxine Andrews; sisters-in-law, Joyce Slothower, Vena Van Cleave, and Fredie Van Cleave; brothers-in-law: Bob Grignon, Bud Letcher, Bill Van Cleave, Bob Van Cleave, and Elmer Slothower.

Memorials may be given to Hillcrest Care Center Auxiliary, Laurel, Neb.
