WNCC plans blanket drive for local care facilities

The Sidney campus of Western Nebraska Community College is giving back to its surrounding communities by donating blankets to panhandle long term care facilities, including living centers and nursing homes.

"Four years ago, the staff and I at the Sidney Campus decided we wanted to give back to our service area," said WNCC Sidney Campus Director Paula Abbott. "We decided to create something together and then donate the items to the communities we serve. WNCC purchases the fleece blanket kits, Shirt Tales of Sidney embroiders our logo, and then students, staff, and faculty help cut and tie the blankets.

"Once that is completed, our Admission Counselor, Erin Huddleston, and a group of students go to the seven local long-term care facilities in our service area and give the blankets to residents of the facilities. It is wonderful to see the resident's face light up when you give them this blanket!"

Delivery locations include Miller Memorial Care Center, Chappell; Regional West Garden County Nursing Home, Oshkosh; Skyview, Bridgeport; Kimball County Manor, Kimball; Golden Living Center, Sidney; Sloan Estates, Sidney;  and Sidney Regional Medical Center-Ext Care, Sidney.
