FOR THE SUN-TELEGRAPH

The Peetz Bulldogs’ boys basketball team upped its season record to 7-4 at home on Saturday night with a 70-31 victory over district rival Weldon Valley.

Peetz took it to the Warriors (4-10) from the opening tip as it raced out to a 16-6 first-quarter lead. The Bulldogs doubled their lead at halftime as an 18-8 quarter gave them a 20-point advantage (34-14) going into the locker room.

The Peetz defense yielded only one double-digit quarter, but the Bulldogs still padded their lead in the third by outscoring the Warriors 17-11. The ‘Dogs continued to apply pressure to the end as the lead bulged 13 more points in the final period.

A balanced scoring attack had four Bulldogs’ players in double figures. Sophomore Cody Wilson led the way with 16 points while Casey Barrett (15) and Bradey Holtz (14) were close behind. Freshman Logan Sircy added 11 points. Dylan Wilkins and Wyatt Oblander topped the Weldon Valley scoring sheet with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Holtz added to his offensive production with a team-high 10 assists. Wilson and Jordan Nelson ruled the boards with seven rebounds apiece. Barrett and Holtz each had four steals and Wilson three.

The Bulldogs next take to the home hardwood on Friday when they host Prairie in another league matchup. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
