Donald C. Farnsworth

1934 to 2015

Donald C. Farnsworth, 80, a former longtime Sidney resident, passed away Jan. 7, 2015 in Springfield, Mo.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 10 a.m., Mon., April 20, in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to the Sidney Public Library.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation service is in charge of Don's local arrangements.

Don was born March 12, 1934, in Carroll, Neb. to Harvey W. and Bernadette (Shannon) Farnsworth. The family moved to Sidney when Don was young. He attended St. Patrick's Academy until he left Sidney to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. While serving in the Navy, Don married Lois Lenz of Chappell. They raised a family of three children while first residing in San Diego, Calif. Don left the military while in San Diego and worked in the aeronautical manufacturing industry in both San Diego and Los Angeles, California. The family later moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Don worked for the electric utility provider Salt River Project. He returned to Sidney in 1974, having married Carmen Hager of Phoenix. They were both employed by the City of Sidney; he with the Sanitation and Water Departments. Don retired from the City of Sidney in 2002 to care for Carmen whose failing health ultimately lead to her death in 2003. In 2013 he moved to Springfield, Mo. to be close to his son Kevin. He was an avid reader who enjoyed dining out, especially at the Elks Lodge. Don is survived by his children; Rene Ehly (Milt) of Potter, Kevin Farnsworth (Deanna) of Springfield, Mo., Shane Farnsworth (Mindi) of Des Moines; a step son Richard Hinchman; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings Janice Crabb, Patrick Farnsworth, and Joy Hoerler; and his former wife Lois. Don is preceded in death by his parents and second wife Carmen.
