Cox takes 6th, relays finish 5th at state for Peetz

The Peetz Bulldogs track teams concluded their season at the State Track and Field Championships at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood, Colo., on Saturday.

The Bulldogs qualified three athletes for individual events and five relay teams. Junior Garrin Cox, who qualified for state in the shot put on the final day of the season, opened the competition for Peetz on Thursday with a sixth-place finish. He put the shot an even 39 feet to finish in sixth place.

Also for the boys, sophomore Cody Wilson made the grade in the 400 meters. After twice breaking the school record in the final weeks of the season, Wilson finished in 52.97 to wind up in eighth place.

The Bulldogs final individual qualifier was freshman Abby White. She gained valuable experience on the big stage in the 1,600 meters and wound up 11th in a time of 6:04.17. Like Wilson, White is also a school record holder. She broke the record in the mile during the final weeks of the season.

In addition to the individual qualifiers, the boys competed in four relay events and the girls one. The Lady Bulldogs took to the line in the 3,200 meter relay and finished 12th in a time of 9:20.57. The 4x800 team included Jennifer Gutierrez, Whitney Christian, Payton Swedlund and White.

The boys brought home two fifth-place medals in the relays. In the 4x100 race, the Bulldogs completed the course in 46.67. They were also fifth in the 4x200 in a time of 1:36.22. Both squads included Bradey Holtz, Cole White, Casey Barrett and Wilson.

The same foursome also competed in the 4x400-meter relay and crossed the line in eighth place in a time of 3:41.33.

Wolf Wenneker and Logan Sircy joined White and Wilson in the 3,200 relay and wound up 12th in 9:20.57.
