China Buffet reopens under new management

China One Buffet on Silverberg Drive in Sidney has re-opened under new management.

The husband and wife team of Jing Song and XiaoYan Chen are excited about making changes to the restaurant while being a part of the community.

"We are originally from New York," Chen said. "My husband learned to cook in New York and then we moved to Oklahoma."

Before moving to Sidney, the family operated a larger business in Oklahoma for several years.

"We wanted to move to a small town to raise our kids, so we thought about running a smaller business that was easier to take care of," Chen said. "We managed a restaurant in Oklahoma, and our business partner didn't have children, so it was difficult for us to make sure we had time with our two kids."

Although the restaurant will remain named China One Buffet, Chen said they have made many changes, including the décor and adding items to the menu.

"We brought a lot of seafood to the menu," she said. "Now you can get sushi, shrimp and even frog legs and crawfish. It's just something different that people here might not be used to. A lot of people here like the seafood."

Chen said they have gotten a great response from the community since re-opening and are looking forward to keep making changes and maintaining the restaurant with their previous experience.

"I like the people here," she said. "When they come to the restaurant everyone is very nice.

"Since we are new here, a lot of people have been helpful. The previous owner didn't have enough help, so it's nice to have family here helping. I am happy to be here working with my family."
