Leyton volleyball opens with win over Garden Co.

The Leyton High Lady Warriors went on to the road to Garden County to open the 2015 volleyball season with a straight-set victory.

Leyton finished off the Lady Eagles with scores of 25-17, 25-10, 25-19.

The Warriors' hitters put in a strong performance as the senior trio of Kristine Barnett, Diedra Waite and Natalie Cruise paced the team with 10, nine and seven kills respectively. Waite also had four blocks and Cheyenne Nickel had three.

On defense, the Warriors had four players finish with double-digit digs. Barnett topped the list with 20, while Cruise had 15, Waite 12 and Hope Dykman 11

Dykman proved strong on the service line as she served at 92 percent in 25 attempts, which included a pair of aces. Setter Taylor Berner had 14 assists.

The Warriors will try to keep the momentum going on Sept. 12 at the Garden County tournament in Oshkosh. The action gets underway at 10 a.m.
