Evans tabbed November artist of the month

The Cheyenne County Art Guild has selected Margaret Ann Evans as its November artist of the month.

It is the third time Evans, who has been a member of the art guild since 2010, has been named the artist of the month. Evans said she would like to dedicate this month's honor to her late mother, Betty Evans, who died in January 2011.

"Growing up on a ranch in the High Plains allowed me many opportunities, to observe the beauty in nature and our every changing landscapes," Evans said. "Capturing that beauty and the unique moments observed brings joy to my soul. Photographs are my way to share this joy with others, continuously searching for the serenity and meaning they bring to life."

Evans enjoyed drawing as a child, but photography is now her sole artistic creation. She began taking photos in the early 1970s after purchasing a camera for her father. She became interested in NASCAR racing, and eventually began to take photos and improve her camera equipment.

She purchased her first digital camera in the 1990s and has since solely used that medium.

For the past several years, Evans has entered photos in the Cheyenne County Fair and won many ribbons, including the 2013, 2014 and 2015 adult open class photography grand champion. She also has entered photographs in the 2010-2015 Cheyenne County Art Guild's annual spring show, in which she has received several ribbons. Two of Evans' photographs were in the state art show, and her photography has also been displayed at various art shows throughout the region.
