Raiders named to Western Conference teams

LINCOLN – A total of 12 student-athletes from Sidney High School have been named to the Nebraska School Activities Association Western Conference all-conference teams in volleyball and football.

From the Red Raiders football squad, the quartet of Derek Robb, Tyler Wintholz, Hunter Secrest and Alex Linneman were named to the first-team squad. Additionally, Coby Haas, Dominic Beyer, Dalton Schilz and Josh Austad were named as honorable mention to the all-conference team.

As a sophomore, Robb rushed for a season-high 669 yards and 11 touchdowns on 124 carries. He also snatched 13 receptions for 176 yards and a TD during the season to lead the team with 845 all-purpose yards, which included 91 yards on kickoff returns.

Defensively, Robb logged 30 solo tackles.

When it came to the air game of the Red Raiders, no one was better at catching the ball and taking it down field than Winholz; the senior receiver for Sidney logged 430 yards on 32 receptions and managed to find the end zone five times, including a season-long 40-yard catch.

Wintholz averaged 13.4 yards per reception. On the other side of the ball he led the team in sacks with six.

Second only to Robb’s outstanding ground game, Secrest ended the season with 560 yards and two touchdowns on 128 carries. Defensively, Secrest made 30 solo tackles.

Linneman, a junior, was third on the list of Sidney running backs with 407 yards on 47 carries and seven touchdowns. He also grabbed 11 receptions for 170 yards and a score. With 93 yards worth of kickoff return distance under his belt, Linneman racked up a total of 577 all-purpose yards.

In volleyball, Emily Mahr, a senior, was named first team after netting 43 aces to take the season record for the Lady Raiders, and she was the primary setter for the team with 761 assists.

Annalise Lecher, a junior, was also named first team and recorded 234 kills and 10 aces, and was the leader at the net with 77 solo blocks across the season.

The duo of Maddi Porter and Payton Jung received honorable mention on the all-conference team.
