Headed to state: Potter-Dix wins district one-act competition

Potter-Dix earned the top spot at the district one act play competition in Hyannis on Wednesday and will advance to the state competition next week.

Potter-Dix presented "Eurydice" by Sarah Ruhl to beat out seven other schools in its division.

According to the team's sponsor, Beth Bogert, the group had five members receive outstanding acting awards. Sam Bogert, Justice Palmer, Noah Nelson, Audrey Juelfs and Dawson Sharman received recognition for their performances.

"The team has put in countless hours on the stage in preparation," Bogert said. "Yesterday all of our team members stepped up to the challenge and gave an amazing performance. It's not only the actors though, our lighting team and stage crew had to make many adjustments due to being on a different stage."

Bogert added that each person on the team has improved.

"We will continue making improvements and scrutinizing our play right up until the moment the curtain opens in Norfolk," she said. "I'm so proud of this team for taking on such a challenging play and performing it so beautifully."

In the D1-6 district, Leyton High School received second for their portrayal of "The Importance of Being Earnest" and Creek Valley High School took third for their performance of "Hero on Trial."

Potter-Dix will compete at the state competition at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk at 6 p.m. on Dec. 9.
