Potter-Dix boys beat up on Banner County

Following a devastating 81-23 loss to Sedgwick County on Friday, the Potter-Dix Coyotes came back for a home win against the Banner County Wildcats on Saturday.

Leading scorers in the battle against Sedgwick County were seniors Coby Hicks with eight points and Cole Christensen with six, followed by Kelsey Rozelle with three and, Noah Nelson, Sam Bogert and Edward Barnes contributing two each.

With just five athletes on their roster, the visiting Wildcats forfeited the varsity game against the Coyotes Saturday in Potter, but played out the junior varsity game. Potter-Dix won, 43-10.

The starters for the Coyotes, Noah Nelson, Austin Lewis, Tyrus Gawith, Barnes and Keverett Rusk quickly took control of the game, and ended the first half with a 22-3 lead.

Coming back from halftime, Wildcat James Sandberg scored first but the Coyotes returned with a speedy and aggressive game.

Sandberg received an elbow to the nose in the third quarter, causing a delay in the game during which he was checked out and cleaned up. He came back to play the game with a four man team as teammate Cole Blanke was ejected from the game on a technical foul.

Before the final quarter, the Coyotes were running a five-man team against just three Wildcats when Sandberg was benched for the remainder of the match.
