Donald J. Schilz, 85 of Minatare, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place at Dugan-Kramer Crematory and a memorial service will be held at a later date and time in Sidney. Don was born on April 3, 1930, in Sidney to Mark and Leona (Heeg) Schilz. He received his education in Sidney, graduating from Sidney High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on Dec. 7, 1951 and served his country until his honorable discharge on Dec. 6, 1953. Don returned to the Sidney area where he met and married Maxine D. Jezek on April 21, 1956. The couple made their home in Kimball, Sidney, Clinton, UT, Oshkosh and Minatare.

Don worked hard and was a good provider for his family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, wood working, and working on vehicles. He was mellow and easy going. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Don is survived by his son Larry Schilz of Kearns, UT; daughter Keri Wolf (John Michael Claudell) of Mitchell; grandchildren Melissa D., Caitlyn Schilz, and Tabatha (Chris) Urban; great-grandchildren Erik Ray, Tommie Joushua, and Haydin Marie; brothers Mark Schilz and John A. Schilz; sisters Mary Smith, Barbara Lindquist, and Verna Unverzagt; sisters-in-law Darlene Smith and Brenda (Chuck) Dekoekoek; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Don was preceded in death by parents, his wife, brother Jim, and daughter Denise Schilz.
