Sidney's Cody Hofrock, left, takes control of the match against Tyler Franklin in the 220 weight class in Thursday's dual meet at Bridgeport. Hofrock won by fall in 3:47.

A short-handed Sidney squad fell in a dual meet at Bridgeport on Thursday night, 39-27.

"For the most part, I thought our kids wrestled hard," Sidney coach John Ganser said. "We were short-handed due to sickness and injuries, and we tried to overcome that. We came close.

"I'll give them credit, I think our kids showed up for each other."

The Raiders picked up wins in five weight categories. Trey Arellano won by fall in 2:31 over Jerardo Castillo in the 106 weight class. In the 120 weight class, Kaden Vowers topped Ramon Dominguez by fall in 1:19. Jack Feddersen also won by fall in the 132 weight class, topping Dylan Schnell by fall in 3:00.

Nathan Cuello won over Logan Coalson in a 7-5 decision in the 170 weight class, and Cody Hofrock won by fall in 3:47 over Tyler Franklin in the 220 weight class.

Sidney lost in four weight classes on Thursday night.

"There's a couple of things that sometimes kids have to learn the hard way, and some of the mistakes they made, now we can point them out to them again and they see what they did," Ganser said. "That's the main thing."

The Raiders did not have enough healthy wrestlers for five weight categories. They had to forfeit in three matches, and there were also a pair of double forfeits on the night.

"We have to get healthy," Ganser said. "We get healthy and I'll know more in a week or two, but we have to get healthy. Colton Peckham has to get well, Patraic Hays has to get well, Derek Robb has to heal. When we get those things going, we'll see where we're at.

"We're short numbers anyway, so those are the kind of things we have to stay away from. We'll know more in a couple weeks."

Sidney is back on the mats Saturday at the Chase County Tournament.
