Snowfall hits Cheyenne County

8-10 inches expected for area

Snowfall in the Cheyenne County area is expected to continue through noon on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, Wyo., snow accumulation is expected to be between 8-10 inches for the Cheyenne County area. The snow is due to taper off Tuesday morning. This storm has brought blowing snow and the National Weather Service cautions the accumulation of snow drifts.

A snow emergency has been declared until further notice for the City of Sidney. When in a snow emergency, vehicles should be removed from the snow route areas. These areas are designated by blue and red signs along the road. The routes can also be found on the city's website http://www.cityofsidey.org.

Cheyenne County Sheriff John Jenson advises motorists to "drink a good cup of common sense" when traveling around the Cheyenne County area. Jenson also advises people not to travel if you do not have to, and if you must travel to make sure someone is aware of the route that you plan to travel.

Along with the snow emergency, Sidney Public Schools let classes out two hours early on Monday. Tuesday morning classes for Sidney Public Schools will start two hours late.

"The late start is based on current conditions, also to assist maintenance and asses current conditions," said Superintendent Jay Ehler.
