Free preschool screening scheduled

Northeast Colorado BOCES, in conjunction with Plateau School District RE-5 and Northeast Colorado Health Department will be offering free developmental screening to children ages six months through five, children who will not attend Kindergarten next year.

The screen will briefly evaluate the areas of language, gross and fine motor, pre-academic development, hearing and other medical needs. All parents with preschool aged children are encouraged to participate in this screening.

Children living in the Peetz area can be screened on Friday, April 15, from 9:30-11:30 pm at Peetz Preschool. Call the school at (970) 334-2361 ext. 127 to schedule an appointment to have your child screened.

Children identified as having needs that could affect later school performance may be eligible for special services through Northeast Colorado BOCES. These services are offered in a variety of community settings designed to meet the needs of preschool aged children. Involvement in a program is not mandatory after participating in the screen and is not provided without parental consent.

Children under three can be screened on an individual basis. For more information on the screening or questions regarding your child’s development, call Early Childhood Coordinator at Haxtun BOCES Office, (970) 774-6152.
