Letter To The Editor: Is it possible?

Dear Editor,

Anthony Ruiz’s picture of a panoramic view of the new Deadwood fitness and exercise trail was really neat! (April 12th edition of the Sun-Telegraph). Is it possible that Sidney could offer the basic services that traveling cyclists are looking for? (food, water, tents, showers).

With this in mind, I would like to make a general statement that active bicycle tourists as well as hikers, walkers, runners, cyclists, triathletes and so on really does boost an area’s economy in a nice way!

Could Sidney be a bicycle-friendly town with designated bike routes, such as the Deadwood fitness trail system? Can we boost, revitalize and enrich this rural community by bringing in people through bicycles? Is Sidney on a designated bike route (such as the Transamerica Bicycle Trail)? Could we design, as a small rural town, and create short detours from an existing bicycle tourism route, making our own area bicycle friendly?

In closing, I’m just excited about the challenge of creating a bicycle-friendly town. We have a beautiful Deadwood fitness trail as a starting point for greater things. I want to thank the Cheyenne County Visitors Center, Anthony Ruiz of the Sun-Telegraph and the gentleman cycle tourist that came to the community center to speak.

Thanks so much,

Stan Fox, Sidney
