Western Nebraska Community College offers free summer classes

Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) is offering free classes on all three of their campuses this summer.

The #SummerFree courses are offered to WNCC currently enrolled full-time, part-time, through CollegeNOW! or who have previously attended but not graduated with their degree. The Students must also have a current GPA of 2.0 or higher, declare a program of study and choose courses for that program of study to be eligible.

"Several years ago, the federal government eliminated the summer pell grant program, so students were not taking as many classes as before," WNCC President Todd Holcomb said. "We wanted a way for those students to finish degrees and be able to graduate."

Through #SummerFree, students can take two courses as long as they do not exceed eight credit hours. Tuition and fees are included in the program, but students are responsible for their textbooks and materials.

Course offered include: American History II, Applied Statistics, Business Ethics, Business Law 1, College Algebra, Dance Fitness, Educational Psychology, English Composition 1, English Composition 2, English Literature 1, Environmental Science, First Aid, Human Communications, Intermediate Algebra, Intro to Business, Intro to Psychology, Intro to Sports Administration, Intro to the Humanities, Introductory Algebra, Jogging, Life Span Human Growth/Development, Medical Terminology, Microbiology, Nutrition & Diet Therapy, Personal Health, Principles of Management, Public Speaking, Spanish for the Traveler, Spelling Improvement, Survey English Literature 1,Vocabulary Improvement, Weight Training, Wellness and Yoga/Pilates Mix.

Holcomb said that they chose the courses based on what the students will need in order to finish their degrees.
