Alexah's 'A-MAZE-ing Rabbits' visit two state competitions

Last month, Alexah Fort attended the State Science Fair competition at the Strategic Air & Space Museum in Ashland, Neb., and will be bringing her project to the annual University of Nebraska Medical School State Science Meet this June in Omaha.

Alexah's exhibit, "A-MAZE-ing Rabbits," was conducted by testing the cognitive and memory skills of two different breeds of rabbits through the use of maze activities over a 10-day period.

About 30 students from five different schools in the Panhandle, including two from Sidney, participated in the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences (NJAS) Regional Science Fair on March 2 at the Harms Advanced Technology Center at Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) in Scottsbluff. Alexah placed fourth in the competition to advance her to the State Science Fair in Ashland, Neb. on April 21.

Also at the WNCC event, judges from the Nebraska Area Health Education Centers (NAHEC) placed Alexah in the top 3 along with eighth grade student, Ben Bashtovoi. Both Sidney students received invitations from NAHEC to attend the science event in Omaha.

Alexah's mother, Donna Fort, said that her daughter was the only student at regionals who was placed by both sets of judges to go to the state competition in Ashland and the University of Nebraska Medical State Science Meet in Omaha, set for June 9 to 11.
