Catherine C. Stahr - Obituary

Catherine C. Stahr, 91, of Chappell, passed away Friday, July 1st, at Regional West Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh, where she was a resident for almost 5 years.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chappell with Father Matthew Koperski officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm Friday at the church with a rosary service following at 7.

Catherine Christina Stahr, the daughter of Adam and Christina Lechman, was born on February 15, 1925 in Sterling. She attended school in Julesburg, until she was in the 8th grade when they moved to Ovid. She continued her education in Ovid, until the death of her father, at which time she then assisted her mother on the farm.

She married Floyd H. Stahr on August 22, 1948 and to this union seven children were born - Dianne, Betty, Patty, Daniel, Gregory, Arlene and Yvonne. All of their children graduated from Chappell High School and went on to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln or Kearney State College.

Catherine was a member of of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society since 1948. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Besides cooking for her family, she also cooked for the prisoners at the Deuel County jail for 32 years. She, also, did babysitting as her children were growing and helped manage and did all the bookkeeping for the Husky Streamside Kamp Park for nine years. She was a very loving wife and mother, always putting her family first.

Survivors include: Children: Dianne (Danny) Hartline of Kansas City, MO, Betty (Rich) O'Bannon of Lisco, NE, Patty (Eldon) Kelso of Omaha, NE, Dan (Georgia) Stahr of Malcolm, NE, Greg (Julie) Stahr of Lincoln, NE, Arlene (Reggie) Ansbach of Kansas City, MO, Yvonne (Jim) Benson of East Rochester, N.Y. Grandchildren: Heath (Natalee) Hartline, Casey Hartline, Jeffory (Megan) Rood, Christopher Rood, Anthony Rood, Matthew (Kim) Kelso, Nathan (Janelle) Kelso, Margeaux (Grant) Maul, Elke (Andrew) Hamann, Dane Stahr, Quinn Stahr, Adam (Kalee) Stahr, Stacie Ansbach, Matt (Lindsey) Ansbach, Mandy (Matt) Burmeister, Jackie Ansbach, Julia Benson, Elliott Benson. Great Grandchildren: Baron, Hank, Arielle, Addison, Jonas, Madeline, Annabelle, Ainsley, Koston, Ruby, Callan, Greer, Madison, Makinley, Cara, Kylie, Alexis, Iszac, Tayleigh. Sister-in-law Mozelle Lechman of Elizabeth, CO. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd, two infant sons, her parents (Adam & Christina), 7 brothers, 2 sisters, & spouses: Arnold, John, Frank (Ruth), Catherine, Ann (August) Borm, Adam, Thomas (Lucille), Joseph (Ruby), and George.
