E. Robert "Bob" Tishendorf - Obituary

E. Robert "Bob" Tishendorf, 91 years of age, of Bellevue, Nebraska, (formerly of Sidney) passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Louisville Care Community in Louisville, NE. Bob was born February 23, 1925, at Anoka, Nebraska, the third of six children born to Elmer Jennings and Clara Eleanor (Bengston) Tishendorf. Bob received his education in Niobrara, Nebraska, graduating in 1942.

After serving in the Army, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Bob pursued higher education at Wayne State College, where he also played basketball, and graduated with a degree in teaching. He began his teaching and coaching career in Madrid, NE.

On August 17, 1952, he was united in marriage to Phyllis V. Nelson at Axtell, NE and to this union three children were born: Rebecca, Janet (Tanny), and Susan.

Bob furthered his teaching and coaching career in Sutherland and Venango, Nebraska until 1970 when he began a 31-year career as an insurance agent, first in Sidney, NE and then in Chappell, NE, retiring at age 70.

He was an active member of Berea Lutheran Church in Chappell, serving on church council, in men's ministries, at Sullivan Hills camp, and with a tri-county parish formation. Most recently, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bellevue, where he and his wife had moved in 2012.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; three sisters: June Skole, Mavis Heidemann, and Mary Burdick.

He leaves to celebrate his life 3 daughters: Rebecca Bonham (Lance) of Sunnyvale, CA, Tanny Akerson (Dr. Jeff) of Bellevue, and Susan Tishendorf of Papillion; five grandchildren: Amy Bomgaars (Aaron), Adam Akerson (Mollie), Chris Bonham, Geoff Bonham, and Natalie Bonham (Marcos Valencia); five great grandchildren: Charlie and Jack Bomgaars, Collins and Winnie Akerson, Cristian Valencia; one sister, Gwenn Holmlund; one brother David Tishendorf (Mary). In addition he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 104 Galvin Road North, in Bellevue, NE. Inurnment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Columbarium, following the service.

A memorial has been established to Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries (NLOM).
