Sidney DOVES holds ribben cutting, open house

Sidney's DOVES program hosted an open house along with a ribbon cutting Wednesday at it's new location in the Panhandle Health Group Building in Sidney.

The DOVES Program in Sidney provides services for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, the organization serves women, men, teens, and children.

Victoria Williams, program coordinator for Cheyenne/Kimball County DOVES program, said DOVES has been providing assistance to survivors in the community for more then 36 years but moved the office three months ago to the Panhandle Health Group Building.

"We offer a food pantry, medical advocacy, legal advocacy, counseling referrals and one on one support lessons that focus on the need of the situation," Williams said.

Williams is the only DOVES employee in Sidney but she said her resources are plentiful.

"I love the support that I get from my fellow advocates, and my boss. This is the best group of ladies to work with," Williams said.

"We serve in counties in the Western part of Nebraska, but if there was someone out of that area that needed aid we could provide them with the information they need for that area. I have had calls from as far away as Virginia and California," Williams said.

DOVES has offices in Gering, Alliance, Chadron and Sidney. The group offers various services on different campuses. Some of those services include group support, holistic healing workshops, coping skills, connection to other agencies, immigration assistance, attorney referrals, court system information and referrals, medical system information and support, accompaniment to hospital, doctor, or clinic, transportation assistance, emergency cell phones and safe shelters.
