City economic development director leaving

It was announced Tuesday night during the Sidney City Council meeting that Economic Development Director, Tina Hochwender, would be leaving her position with the city to relocate for a new opportunity.

Tina Hochwender began her position with the City of Sidney as Economic Development Director in June 2015. Hochwender moved to Sidney after working for the City of Council Bluffs, Iowa as its community development director for 15 years.

Hochwender said in an interview with the Sun-Telegraph that looking back at her time in Sidney, she believes her greatest achievements as economic development director include fundraising for the swimming pool, collaborating with the visitor center and chamber to improve their partnership with the city, and working through the transition of city management.

Hochwender has accepted a position in Olympia, Washington working for Washington State Department of Commerce.

Council members thanked Hochwender for all of her work for the City of Sidney. Mayor Mark Nienhueser thanked Hochwender for her “willingness to help through tough times with a smile.”

City Manager Ed Sadler told council members the solid waste superintendent and city electrician vacancies have been filled by current city employees. Hochwender’s position as Economic Development Director has been posted on the City of Sidney website under employment opportunities.
