Ann Wiegand - Obituary

Ann Wiegand, 71, of rural Oshkosh, Nebraska died Tuesday evening, October 4, 2016 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell, Nebraska with Rev. Neil L. Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday in the Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell.

Memorials have been established to the Zion Lutheran Women's Society.

Ann Marie Wiegand, the daughter of William and Zenobia (Caliendo) was born December 7, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the only child of six that was not born in Nebraska due to her father being in the service at the time of her birth. The family moved back to west of Oshkosh in 1945 where she grew up. Ann attended the Penn country school before attending and graduating from Oshkosh High School. She then worked at Midwec in Oshkosh before they closed.

On August 8, 1966 she was united in marriage to Leonard Wiegand at the Zion Lutheran Church and they made their home north of Chappell where they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She worked at the Foster Lumber Yard and Starlite Lanes Bowling Alley for a time while she provided home health care to people.

Ann was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Women's Society and taught Sunday school. She also volunteered at the nursing home. She loved to cook, read and do needle point as well as trying to keep up with her granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband Leonard of Oshkosh, NE; their daughter Sharon Goedert of Elm Creek, NE; her granddaughter Taylor Goedert; one brother William Pickerel of Torrington, WY; and four sisters: Margaret Keiper and husband Don of Chadron, NE, Helen Frerichs and husband Jerry of Chappell, NE; Charlie Frerichs and husband Fred and Janet Tucker all of Oshkosh, NE; one sister-in-law Melva and husband Bob Payne of Chappell, NE; four brother-in-laws: Milton and wife Mary Ann Wiegand of Chappell, NE, Vern and wife Linda Wiegand of Denver, CO, Walt Wiegand of Sidney, NE and Delmar and wife Carol .Wiegand of Chappell, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Lynette Wiegand; mother and father-in-law Wilma and Walter Wiegand and two sister-in-laws Della and husband Delbert Colerick and Lucille Wiegand.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Chappell is serving the Wiegand family.
