Louise M. Perry Jay was born in David City, Nebraska on August 30, 1925, the daughter of John and Anna (Schmitt) Schadegg. She moved with her family at the age of three months to Kimball. She attended country schools in Kimball and graduated from the Kimball High School in 1943. Following graduation, Louise apprenticed under Esther Anderson, a local cosmetologist, and later opened her own beauty shop in the back of the old Larsen’s Jewelry store. On April 22, 1946, she was married to Leonard Perry and they sold the beauty shop and farmed ground just west of the Mary Lynch School. In 1949 they moved to a farm five miles north and five miles west of Kimball. In 1958 they purchased that farm where they lived and began farming on their own. They rented land from time to time and in 1968 they purchased the adjoining quarter of land. Louise started selling Avon in 1959 to help provide for the family. Leonard preceded her in death on August 10, 1987. Louise continued to live on the farm and operate it with her sons. She was married to Arnie Jay in Kimball on October 21, 2000. She continued selling Avon until the time of her death. Louise enjoyed cross stich, playing solitaire on the computer, going to Dairy Queen and playing scratch tickets.
