Departments fight fire

Firefighters from Gurley, Sidney, Dalton and Potter, as well as the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, responded to a fire Wednesday in the northeast area of the former Sioux Army Depot ordinance igloos. Upon arrival, fire crews knocked down flames that had spread from a burning pile of wood chips into surrounding grass. Responders spent the rest of their time preventing another jump of the fire, dousing the pile and working to prevent it from spreading due to high winds. The call was one of two in the county, the other being a fire in a yard south of Potter that was quickly contained.
