Adopt-A-Dog hosts annual "Doggie Dash"

To raise funds for the local Adopt-A-Dog shelter, dogs and their owners will be dashing their way through Chappell in a 5K run/walk known as the “Doggie Dash.”

Terry Duffield, founder of Adopt-A-Dog Animal Rescue has been rescuing dogs since 1986, first by putting pens up in her own yard.

Adopt-A-Dog is a non-profit animal rescue/shelter that is located on the east edge of Chappell on Hwy. 30. The rescue accepts abandoned and surrendered dogs and cats and finds them permanent homes.

All proceeds from the run will go to the rescue and helps to provide food, shelter and health care for the rescued pets.

“We are also trying to get an excise area,” Duffield said.

The dash will be a 5K run/walk that will wind through the streets of Chappell. Duffield said four-legged friends are also welcome at the run.

The “Doggie Dash” will be held May 20. Registration will be held from 8:30-9:15 a.m. at the Chappell Swimming Pool Park located at 5th and Washington.

The Dash starts at 9:30 a.m. Donuts and juice will be available after the run, along with drawings for prizes.

Registration is $25 per person and includes a doggie bag and chance to win prizes. If participants register by Friday they will receive a limited edition shirt.

Adopt-a-Dog currently has three dogs, Keebah, Sasha, Kumo and one cat, Mulberry available for adoption.

Duffield said two of the available dogs are female “bully breed mixes.” Keebah is three and a half and Kumo is eight months old. Sasha, the third dog, is young adult female Husky mix and Mulberry is a black domestic long hair female cat.
