Raiders golfers qualify for state

Sidney High School golfers have been running on a hot streak through their final meets, handily taking care of challengers going into district competition.

That streak continued into Monday's district play, where the Raiders shot a team 316 to qualify for state the second year in a row as a team.

Connor Dormann led all golfers into the clubhouse, his 75 good enough to edge Scottslbuff's Gabe Patton (76) and temmate Nate Dvorak (77). Also medaling for the Raiders was Drake DeMasters, who finished in sixth.

While the Raiders have remained atop the field as of late, Sidney Coach Chuck Christiansen is waiting for his squad to put their best foot forward.

"They didn't play like they are capable of playing," Christiansen said. "There is still room for improvement."

In preparation for next week's state tournament in Lincoln, Christiansen said chipping and putting will be on the work schedule.

But for a few bad chips and a couple of three putts, Christiansen said there wasn't any reason the Raiders couldn't have broken 310, a score they'll need to make a good showing at state.

"We know they are capable," Christiansen said.

State play begins Tuesday at Lincoln Highland Hills Golf Course.
