Lots of baseball action next weekend in Sidney

Baseball fans won’t be left wanting the weekend of June 23-25, as a pair of tournaments for players from nine years old and up provide action in Legion Park.

Action begins Friday when American Legion Post No. 17 hosts its Senior Tournament. Chappell’s Buckley Bombers open action against Bridgeport in the tournament opener at 9 a.m. Sidney’s own Seniors will close the first day of play at 6 p.m., meeting Gordon in the night cap.

In between, Hershey and Gering tangle at noon, followed by a Chappell-Kearney contest at 3 p.m.

On Saturday, play again begins at 9 a.m. with consolation bracket games, while winners play at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. The tournament championship is Sunday at 6 p.m.

Younger players take the field Saturday in the Sidney Invite Wood Bat Tournament, which in addition to good baseball, benefits Sidney’s cancer treatment center.

Pool play for age 10 and under teams starts Saturday, followed by single elimination bracket play on Sunday. 10 and under teams will play on field four in the Cheyenne County Community Center field complex.

Teams with players age 12 and under will play on Legion Park’s Kiwanis Field, following the same format of pool play Saturday and bracket play Sunday.
