SHS, Chamber partner for student job shadowing

Sidney High School and Cheyenne Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering to provide students with job shadowing and internship opportunities.

The opportunities are based mutually on the student’s interest and the willingness of local businesses to host students.

As many as 15 junior and seniors participate in the program yearly, Chris Arent, SHS principal, said.

“We start with the job shadowing experience. That way, (students) can go follow and be able to ask questions, and see if it’s a good fit or not for their interests,” Arent said.

If the student’s interest grows, an internship is set up for their senior year.

“We do that for any length of time, up to a semester, for that student,” Arent said. “We give them time during the school day to be able to go and visit that location and visit with the people there and get a little more immersed in what happens on a regular basis within that job.”
