Raider football defeats Hastings

That high-pitched sound in the air Friday night was the squeak of the Red Raiders leaving Hastings with a one-point win.

The Sidney Red Raiders won their contest with the Hastings Tigers in Hastings Friday, 14-13.

The Red Raiders earned the only points in the first half with a touchdown and extra point in the first quarter. The first half ended with Sidney in the lead 7-0.

The first quarter of the second half ended in a tie with Hastings and Sidney earning seven points each for a 14-7 game. In the fourth quarter, Hastings earned the only points of the period with a touchdown and no extra point, ending the game at 14-13.

Junior Anik Doty lead the Raiders offensively, completing four of 12 passes for 31 yards. He also carried the ball five times.

Senior Derek Robb lead the team in rushing, carrying the ball 22 times for 106 yards. As a team, the Raiders carried the ball 39 times of 119 yards and one touchdown. Sidney's offense had 119 rushes,  16 receptions, and 43 kick returns. Senior Derek Robb had one one rushing touchdown and interception return.

Defensively, the Raiders had a total of 85 tackles, 51 solo and 34 assisted. Senior Colby Haas had nine solo tackles, junior Ryan Onstott had six solo tackles and nine assists and senior Braydon Cortney had four solo tackles and seven assists and senior Grant Hausmann  had five solo tackles and four assists. Senior Jon Smith had the team's one interception for 73 yards.

Sidney hosts the Holdrege Dusters 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22. Sidney enters the game with a 2-2 record and Holdege has an 0-2 record.
