Peetz moves to second round in playoffs

PEETZ- The Peetz Bulldogs made it through the first stage of 6-man playoffs Saturday, defeating Eads 58-8.

"We played very well in our first round," said Peetz coach Scott Sorensen

The Saturday afternoon playoff game between the Eads Eagles and the Peetz Bulldogs started in the Bulldogs' favor and never really changed. The Bulldogs earned 29 points in the first quarter, beginning with the opening kickoff returned for the first touchdown of the game.

At 6:24, Peetz was again in scoring position. With a two-point point-after, the score expanded to 14-0. Less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs block an Eads punt, recovering the ball on the 15. The Bulldogs scored with No. 23 Hunter White running the ball in for the second TD.

Another point-after two-point made the game 22-0.

With 18 seconds left in the quarter, Peetz again takes over on the 15. Bulldogs' No. 11 Bryson Long carries it in for another rushing touchdown of the game's first quarter.

The second quarter started as the first with Peetz remaining in control. At 8:33 in the second quarter, the Bulldogs scored on a short pass, then earned two extra for a 37-0 run.

The Bulldogs added one more TD to their run in the second quarter with a short pass for a 45-0 half. It was announced that 6-man rules dictate a running clock after a 45-point spread.

The third quarter was about as close as the game got with Eads earning their only touchdown and a two-point conversion while Peetz earned a touchdown and an extra-point for an 8-7 quarter.

The fourth quarter had Peetz scoring once with no successful point-after for a 58-8 final.

Sorensen said he wasn't surprised with a No. 3 seed team playing a lower ranked team. As far as the performance of the Bulldogs, Sorensen said he liked what he saw Saturday.

"I thought we were spot on," he said. "It felt good."

Statistically, the Bulldogs completed three of five passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Tre Fehringer completed three of four and senior Hunter White was 0 for 1.

The Bulldogs rushing game resulted in 30 carries for 203 yards and four touchdowns. White carried the ball twice for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Alex Curlee carried the ball six times for 44 yards and one touchdown. Jake Curlee, senior, was five for 22, junior Zachary Holtz finished three for 21, Helmuth Wenneker carried the ball twice for 30 yards and Tre Fehringer carried the ball once for no gain.

The Bulldogs intercepted the ball twice resulting in touchdowns, and sacked Eads twice, one resulting in a seven-yard loss and once in a three-yard loss.

Fleming defeated LaVeta 52-16 Saturday also. The win results in the Bulldogs and Wildcats returning to the field in Fleming, scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. The winner of the Peetz-Fleming game will go on to face the winner of the Kit Carson-Prairie game on Nov. 11. Semi-finals are scheduled for Nov. 11 and the championship game Nov. 18.
