Peetz Boys Continue Winning Streak

Peetz's varsity basketball teams have gone through a season where the boy's squad hasn't lost a game, while the girl's squad hasn't won a game. This trend continued on Tuesday against the visiting Caliche Buffaloes, but the girls team showed marked improvement from their previous efforts, and gave the girls some momentum to build upon as the season winds down.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-14, 0-8 in league) have struggled mightily, and had been outscored 165-45 in their last three contests. But they saw an opportunity to improve against a Caliche team that has struggled also, with a record of 3-11 (2-3 in league) and the Lady Bulldogs turned in one of their best games of the season against the visiting Lady Buffaloes.

The girl's teams played first, and after a low scoring start to the first quarter, Caliche went on an 8-1 run to end the first quarter up 12-5. The Lady Buffs momentum continued through the second period, scoring 15 points against Peetz's 1 point to go into the half up 27-11. But the Lady Bulldogs made adjustments during the break, and came out with great effort putting up 12 points against the visitors 10 in the third period. Peetz's improved play continued into the fourth quarter, matching the visitors 11 points with 11 of their own. Although they ended up on the wrong side of the 50-32 final score, the game never got out of control for the Lady Bulldogs, and the hustle and effort the girls showed should carry over for the rest of the season. Peetz freshman LaKrisha Fehringer led the Peetz scoring with eight points in a well-balanced offensive effort that had all of the starters contributing by putting points on the board.

The Peetz boys then outmatching the visiting Buffaloes (8-6, 1-2 in league) with speedy offense and dominating defense. The Bulldogs burst out with a 37-12 first quarter, and continued to pile on the points, leading the vistors 57-23 at the break. The game ended with a Peetz win 73-45.
