Incident At Creek Valley High School

Creek Valley school students went to school under increased security Thursday after a threatening letter was found in the school.

Creek Valley sent out an announcement Wednesday telling students, parents, staff members, and community members, that a terroristic threat was found written on a restroom stall at Creek Valley High School.

The threat stated March 1st as the date of occurrence. The Deuel County Sheriff's Office was immediately contacted once the threat was found. School officials and authorities are still investigating who wrote the threat, which school School Principal Patrick Ningen said "we are taking very seriously, and will enact the following protocols for the school day tomorrow."

All high school and elementary students were required to enter the building through the main entrance to begin the school day. Prior to entering, all high school students' bags will be searched by members of the Deuel County Sheriff's Department. If a student bag was not needed, the school suggested not bringing one.

In the announcement, officials said the high school and elementary school buildings will be on Lockout for the entire school day. This means that all exterior doors would be locked at all times, but classes would continue as normal. High school students passing between buildings were to have a staff escort at all times. Campus were closed for lunch. This means students were required to either ride the bus to the elementary and back for lunch, or take a lunch and eat it at the high school. No students were allowed to walk or get rides at lunch time.

The high school and elementary buildings had police presence throughout the day.

The announcement concluded: "The administration of Creek Valley Schools want you to know that our kids' safety is of the utmost importance. We will be vigilant in making our schools a safe and open place to learn. We ask that if you hear anything about this, or any other incident, to please call the school at 308-874-3310."
