Sidney Excels at Chadron Meet

The Sidney High School track team traveled to Chadron over the weekend to participate in the 28th annual Chadron State College High School Invitational Track and Field Meet at Chadron State College.

Both boys and girls teams competed in a field of 497 athletes on Saturday, and the Sidney boys won four events while the girls won one event.

On the boys side, Sidney junior Christian Balandran won the 200 meters with a time of 24.30. Sophomore Benjamin Bashtovi won the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.50 while junior Dante Petersen placed second with a time of 2:18:60 and sophomore Jacob Peckham placed fifth with a time of 2:24.50

Junior Collin Brauer placed second in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:51.50.

The Sidney team of Cade Lewis, Christian Balandran, Jakob Austad, and Zakary Wieser won the 4x160 meter relay with a time of 1:29.54.

Senior Jonathan Smith won the Pole Vault by clearing 13' 6", and junior Dylan Charles placed fifth by clearing 11'6".

Senior Mitch Porter won the Triple Jump with a distance 42' 03", and senior Jakob Austad placed third with a jump of 38' 09".

In other results, junior Zach Pettit placed fifth in the Shot Put with a distance of 42' 09", and senior Mitch Porter placed third in the high jump clearing 6'.

For the girls, Sidney sophomore MJ Johnstone won the Pole Vault, clearing 10' 06", while sophomore Jaylee Shaw placed sixth by clearing 8'.

Senior Natalie Radcliffe placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 28.80, while freshman Morgan Jaggers placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:44.70, senior Charlie Brockhaus placed third at 2:44.90, sophomore Angela Arnett placed fourth at 2:55.40, and sophomore Nicole Birner placed fifth at 2:58.40.

The Sidney 4x800 relay squad comprised of Morgan Jaggers, Charlie Brockhaus, Nicole Birner, and Kara Birner finished second with a time of 11:31.09, while freshman Karly Sylvester finished fourth in the Shot Put with a throw of 30' 07", and senior Natalie Radcliffe placed third in the Long Jump with a distance of 15' 09".
